The NBA makes the election at the end of each regular season (82 games excluding the playoffs) of the season's best player. This prize is won by election over the merit performance during the season.
The winner of this market is determined when officially announced by the NBA MVP of the season. First, the finalists are announced (they do not count for the purpose of determining this market), later when the finals are concluded, the Winners are announced.
